Etheromania tells a fictional story of a boy who has been locked up in a basement by his abusive parents. The parents keep their son drugged up which causes the boy to question reality.

The inspiration for the lyrical theme came from a bunch of news stories about abused and locked up children. The use of ether as the drug was chosen as a tribute to a cult film "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" which can be seen in the second verse.
